B. Cheesecake Summer Fundraiser
Our summer cheesecake fundraiser brought in about $200 for the club. Unfortunately, we had a few problems with our vendor and the delivery of the cheesecakes. Needless to say, if we choose to do this fundraiser again, we will be using a different vendor.

IV. New Business

A. Group Activity
We participated in an activity where you chose your personal leadership style according to the 100 Acres Woods. After your character was chosen, we split into groups of each character for a team building exercise. When the first activity was finished, we separated into groups that contained at least one of each character to give a better dynamic. Of the two activities we did, the one with different character groups was more successful. This was to teach that a strong team is built from different personalities and leadership styles.

B. Introduction to Five Star Chapter Program
Phi Theta Kappa has a program where every chapter can have from zero to five stars. Last year our chapter became a one star chapter. This year, our officer team and advisors are working hard to become a five star chapter. There is a set list of guidelines and items that we must achieve to become a five star chapter. If you wish to read over this list, you can find it at ptk.org. Use the search box and type in 'five star chapter development.' Of everything required to become a five star chapter, we have three-quarters either already completed, or plans with which to complete them. We should not have any problems achieving our goal. We just need participation!

C. Honors Study Topic Introduction
Our Honors study topic for 2008-2010 is: The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges and Consequences. This is just a more complicated way of saying, "What has wealth done to our nations?Do we see what our choices have done to the environment? What has affluence left in its wake?" If you wish to read about this topic thoroughly, you can find it at ptk.org, or on our messageboard nuiota.proboards.com/index.cgi
1. Choice of Honors Study Question
The question that won the poll on the messageboard is: What opportunities does affluence afford individuals, families and communities to give to others? How has this changed over time?
2. Volunteers to help research
We are going to need volunteers to help Jennifer, our VP of Scholarship, do research for the question that was chosen. Anyone interested in helping her, let us know! I will be posting the winning question on the messageboard later today. You can reply with any questions, comments, or research that you want to contribute. You do not have to make an account to post, but please let us know who you are when you do!

D. IRSC 50TH Anniversary
2010 is the 50th anniversary for IRSC. There will be several events going on that commemorate this event.
1. Dedication of Public Safety Building, Sept. 11th
We will be getting more information on this event later in the week. We will need volunteers to help out.
2. Habitat for Humanity
In spring of next year, Phi Theta Kappa wants to host a ground-up ceremony in which we build a house in one day. We will need as many volunteers as possible, and maybe even need to involve the whole campus. We are currently in contact with the Habitat for Humanity board, and as we receive more information, we will let you know. We may not be able to do a ground-up build, but we will definitely be participating in some sort of build. You can get the volunteer form at www.stluciehabitat.org.
3. Introduction of Honors Study Topic/ Question/ Research
In spring of next year, there will be an Open House at the college where friends, family and the community will be invited to see the college and its achievements from the last 50 years. This would be a perfect opportunity to introduce our Honors Study Research to the school and the community, as well as fulfilling one of our five star requirements.

E. College Project- Take Stock In Children
To complete another five star requirement, Phi Theta Kappa is supposed to have a college project. A few of the officers went to speak with Dr. Locke in the A building and posed her the question, "What can Phi Theta Kappa do for the college?" Her response was that we could get involved in the Take Stock in Children Scholarship program. Each scholarship winner is assigned a mentor who has to meet with them once a week for one hour, during school hours. This is something that will be really easy for everyone to get involved in, plus it helps future college students in the process.

F. VA Hospital Visits
We have gone to the VA hospital a few times in the past year, and we wish to continue to do so. We have a possible trip planned on September 11, but we don't have confirmation that this is a good date for the hospital. Once we get more information, we will let you know. We do have another date set to visit the VA. November 12. We should be there around 10:30, so we would need to leave from the transportation area around 9. If you're interested in going, let us know. There is a form that needs to be filled out in order for you to go. We will be helping our veterans play bingo. They're always so happy when people come to visit them, and while we are there, we will be passing out cards thanking them for their service. A member, Sue Williams, had the idea that we could sell cards to the students on campus for $1, so that everyone has a chance to thank the veterans, not just Phi Theta Kappa. I think this is an excellent idea, so anyone who wants to help by donating cards or by sitting in the KSU to sell the cards, let us know!

G. Beach Clean-up
We have a beach clean-up in the works right now. We want to clean a beach in the Fort Pierce Area, but we need some information. If anyone has an idea of a good location for us to clean, let us know. We need to find out who owns the beach, then if the county requires a permit or not. As we get more details, we will let you know.

H. Fall Inductions/ WII Party
Fall inductions are going to be held in the Public Safety Complex on October 30th, at 2pm. We will need volunteers to come early to help us set stuff up for the ceremony and to get everything ready.
The weekend after inductions, I will be hosting a party at my house for new and old members alike so that we may get to know one another better. The date is November 7, and it should start around 4 or 5 pm. We will have several WII game systems to play, maybe even a WII battle. There is also a pool, so anyone interested is more than welcome to use it as well. There will be some food and music, and anyone interested in helping me plan, I would very much appreciate it!
